It would be an understatement to say that 2020 has been quite the year so far. Epic shitshow!
On a Telegram group we recently had a conversation on optimism. What does it mean to be optimistic in 2020? I pulled out this quote from Cory Doctorow, where he says that optimism and pessimism are two side of the same coin and he prefers to use the word hope.
I’m hopeful. Hope is the belief in human agency — that we, working together, can navigate our way to a better future, through our hard, committed, ethical collective labor. Hope does not require that you be able to chart a course from today’s world to a better one: merely that you can identify a *single step* that you can take towards that world, because from that newly attained vantage point, you may well spot another step, and then another.—Cory Doctorow
So I hope that you are hanging in there and managing some kind of normalcy-adjacent life right now. But knowing that the last few months have been hard and often tight money wise, I thought I’d do a bit of pricing research while offering a “back to school” or “back from summer vacation” (if you had the chance to take one!) special for Sentiers memberships. From now until the end of September, you can become a member for $20 USD (and up). $50 is still what makes sense from my side but if you want to jump in and money’s tight, here’s a pretty good rebate. If you’re a student, here’s your student pricing. And if you think some other price is more appropriate, pick the price that makes sense to you.
